who is Mona?
Hey hey, I'm Mona
I did not grow up knowing how to do all of this either.
I grew up in Alaska, but I found many of the outdoor possibilities around me much later. I learned through first attempts, nervous decisions, asking a lot of questions, and plenty of moments where I was extremely aware that I had no idea what I was doing.
Somehow, that became the point. You do not have to arrive as the most experienced person in the room to belong outside. You can be curious. You can prepare. You can begin.
What keeps me curious
The longer I live here,
the more questions I have.
Watching a sea otter float on the water is enough to hold my attention. But then I start wondering about the rest of its world. What does it depend on? What is changing around it? How do we know whether it’s doing well?
That’s a part of me I want to share more of here. I’m fascinated by how things work, by the little details, and by how something small can ripple outward over time.

I want to share the behind the scenes of what it takes to go on these wild adventures. An incredibly important part of it is training and preparation. Being transparent about what goes into these experiences matters to me.
An invitation
Wonder, with a way in.
You don’t need to know the name of every animal or understand all the research to be interested. Something catches your attention, you get curious, and suddenly you want to know a little more.
And I want to bring you along.
